2004 Annual NSGSDC All Breed Puppy / Dog Picnic July 18, 2004Picnic

On Sunday, July 18, 2004, the Nova Scotia German Shepherd Dog Club (NSGSDC) held their annual All-Breed Puppy / Dog Picnic. The LWF Community Centre Ball Field has become "home" to this fun event! This particular day was extremely hot. A lot of the games and demonstrations that were scheduled that day either did not take place or were only performed for a short period of time. We didnt want to overheat the dogs, or the owners!!

The NSGSDC enjoys hosting this event. The picnic provides the perfect venue for dog owners to socialize their dogs, learn ways to play and have fun with their dogs that they may not have thought of before, and also makes them aware of other places / people who they may contact to further work with their dogs (i.e. PawPlex, Fresh Start Obedience).

Again, this is a rare opportunity for new (and old!) dog owners to learn from professional and non-professional dog people the many joys of owning a well-behaved pet. Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time that day. Also, thank you to B&R; Pet Supplies for sponsoring this event and contributing items for the Silent Auction.

And thank you for participating in the events held that day (games, Silent Auction, supporting our canteen). Without you, this day would not be a successful on.

We hope everyone had as much fun learning and playing games as we did! We hope to see you next year.

Please feel free to email any suggestions or comments!

THANK YOU AND CONGRATULATIONS TO THE NSGSDC FOR PUTTING ON A VERY SUCCESSFUL DOG AWARENESS EVENT. THOSE WHO WERE FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO ATTEND AND PARTICIPATE WERE ON GOOD BEHAVIOUR AND ENJOYED THEMSELVES TO THE FULLEST.

2003 Annual NSGSDC All Breed Puppy / Dog Picnic

The 2003 Annual Nova Scotia German Shepherd's All-Breed Puppy / Dog Picnic was held once again at the LWF Community Centre Ball Field. This is the third year that we've held our picnic at this venue, and hope that we will be able to continue to set up there for many years to come. Once again we were fortunate enough not to have rain, so there were many happy organizers and picnic goers! Some of the reasons for holding this event is to give the owners and their children in our community a chance to socialize their pups and older dogs with other breeds; to take part in different activities; and for children to see that there is no need to fear dogs. This is a rare opportunity for new dog owners to learn from professionals and non-professional dog people, the many joys of owning a well-behaved pet.

Over the span of the day, this year's picnic had over 200 people in attendance and approximately 125 dogs!

The day turned out to be a fun and exciting one for those in attendance. Agility and flyball demonstrations were provided by members of the PawPlex. Many of those in attendance also had an opportunity to introduce their dogs to the tunnels, jumps, etc. brought for the demonstrations. Thank you to the PawPlex and its members for helping those new to these sports take a turn on the equipment. It was appreciated by all!!!

An excellent introduction to obedience was provided by Reta Boyd. It is not hard to tell why Reta's obedience classes are usually filled to capacity! Whether it be a puppy or an older dog, teaching your dog to sit, stay and come when called are the basics that all dogs and owners should be able to perform. It could help save your dog's life!

Thank you, as well, to the Robin, from the House of Dogs, for being at our event to answer grooming questions, and for making some of the dogs in attendance look better than ever!

I'm sure there were many tired puppies, dogs and humans leaving the field that day after playing the always popular "Musical Chairs" and "Simon Says." And how could anyone not be tired after the "Clothes Relay Race?!" We hope everyone had as much fun playing these games as we did!

We would not be able to hold this event without the help of many sponsors and volunteers. Venus Boyd and Wendy Clark worked very hard to ensure that all attending had a great time. Thanks to B & R Pet Supplies and their suppliers for ensuring that no one left the field empty handed.

As well, our Picnic would not be successful without you! Thanks to everyone who came, and to those who purchased items from the canteen and our Silent Auction table. Your support is important to us.

Last not but least, a big thank you goes out to Judy Richards for not only judging our German Shepherd puppies, but for pitching in wherever she could be of help! You are definitely an asset to this organization. Thank you, too, Magee, for always showing up to lend a hand.

This year's winning GSD puppy was Blackcrest's Frodo vom Selighaus.

We should also note that this year's picnic included children's handling classes (with prizes for all participants!). Congratulations to Matt Aucoin who won the Jr. Handling class at this year's picnic with Aldercrests Autumn Breeze.

Please feel free to email any suggestions or comments!

2002 Annual NSGSDC Puppy Picnic
July 28, 2002

2002 puppu picnic The 2002 Annual NSGSDC Puppy Picnic was held at the LWF Community Centre Ball Field in Windsor Junction for the second year in a row. Thank you for letting us use your facilities again this year. The day turned out to be a sunny and warm one. You couldn't ask for nicer weather or a better location to hold this event!

2002 puppu picnic This year's picnic provided demonstrations in obedience and field work, as well as an action filled opening agility act by "Paws for Fun." Interactive games between puppy / dog and owners also provided entertainment for those who attended.

Thank you to everyone who donated prizes for our Silent Auction and food for our BBQ, thanks to those who volunteered their time, and thank you to everyone who attended this event. We hope that you and your puppies/dogs enjoyed the day as much as we did!

We would also like to thank Pat and Mike Lanctot for judging our All-breed and our German Shepherd Dog puppy match. We appreciate you both stepping in at the last minute!

This year's winning GSD puppy was Blackcrest's Oden!
